Our Initial Experiences with Applying AR Technology to Regional IX Network Operations and Management
Abstract:
We (at OKIT Corporation) operate a regional IX in Okinawa.
We interact with physical network cables on a regular basis as part of our operations. Typically, we use laptop PCs and tablets on-site for double-checking that we are operating on the correct cable. However, this is a cumbersome process, prone to human-error.
To modernize this process, we developed an in-house AR (augmented reality)-based tool.
The worker wears an AR-enabled head-mount display while doing cable work. This mitigates the time spent for double-checking on a laptop/tablet screen, and enables the worker to use both hands to operate while viewing the relevant information on their head-mount display. We also implemented a voice recognition feature, so the worker can choose the information he/she wishes to view with voice commands.
We share our initial experiences with integrating AR technology in our network operations.
