Changes in common sense about DNS

Abstract

DNS is a technology that has been used for a long time, but it has never stopped walking, It is also a technology that is constantly changing according to change of the Internet. Along with the shifting circumstances surrounding the Internet, previously recommended settings are no longer recommended at this time. On the contrary, we have a case that some settings that were not recommended in the past and not particularly problematic now. In this session, we will take up the past common sense that became outdated about DNS and think about the current DNS. Also consider settings that are not easily affected disasters or failures.

We would like to think whether we can put some annotations on past presentation materials that are not suitable for now. As for the setting of the DNS server name, there is an incorrect interpretation and wrong setting of 'name server is an internal name --- from JPRS ---' announced at JANOG 15 in 2005, I will present the current recommendations.

Also, for the TTL value, there are documents which deny all short TTL values, It is not suitable for the current situation where DNSLB is widely used.
