Do you know the rule of WHOIS ? --- Improving the accuracy of the database ---

Abstract

WHOIS is a service that provides registerd user or assignees information of the internet resources, managed by the Internet registry such as JPNIC and is used for searching users of IP addresses or domain names.

Originally, it was mainly used by ISP engineer for network management and operation, but with wide spred of the usage of the Internet, it was increased being used for different purpose from the beginning such as criminal investigation conducted by law enforcement agencies.

Among the RIR's (Regional Internet Registry) including APNIC, administering IP addresses for the Asia-Pacific region, 
Changes in operational rules are under way to improve the accuracy of WHOIS. The rules of the maintenance and management for resource information by the Internet registry, which is the source of WHOIS, are about to change in the world.

In the ARIN (North America) and RIPE NCC (Europe) regions, already the rule change completed, and at the APNIC, proposal of the change of the rules is in consensus at the APNIC 46 meeting held the other day.

In this session, we are going to introduce the rules of registration to the Internet registry, current policy implementation status in each RIR, problems when the correct information is not registered, and we also discuss about situation of the your WHOIS operation and challenge when new policy is implemented.
