Connecting networks (Data Center Interconnect: DCI) between data centers in different locations is a challenge not only for data center operators but also for their users.
In the past, we have tried to use optical fiber between data centers effectively by using dedicated transmission equipment such as WDM, but this situation is changing.
These are the keywords "Separation of roles of optical transmission equipment (disaggregation)" that were discussed in the JANOG 42 session.
In this session, we introduce an example of how disaggregation of optical transmission equipment can be realized.
In response to this situation, new services called "wavelength loan" have been launched by telecommunications carriers.
