DHCP Operation of CATV Network

Abstract

CATV's share of the fixed broadband market in Japan is no small 20%. The use of FTTH is also increasing in CATV, and the gap between the Internet and carrier networks as an infrastructure is becoming smaller.

One of the major differences between CATV and carrier ISPs is the connection method, in which a single ISP provides DHCP connections, while a multi-ISP provides PPPoE connections.

How does JANOG operate DHCP, which is often used in corporate networks, and how does CATV operate as an ISP network? From the basics of DHCP, I would like to share and discuss ideas and difficulties from the standpoint of operation and development.
