Disaggregated Router with Open Source Software

Abstract

White box routers (carrier grade) equipped with ASICs for routers are scheduled to be released this year, and the introduction of white box routers is expected to increase in areas other than data centers.

KDDI is also considering the introduction of a white box router. As part of this effort, we have developed a prototype that uses open-source software.

Based on the concept that HW can be used in various HWs regardless of platform, we were able to disaggregate HW/SW, which is why we call it "Disaggregated Router".

In this session, we will introduce "Issues and future prospects", "software architecture", and "Overall architecture of the disaggregated router" and share some of the difficulties we encountered during development.
