Why SONiC (OSS NOS for Whitebox) are deployed in commercial use?

Abstract

SONiC is an open source network operating system (strictly speaking, SONiC is a softwares that runs on ONL) that supports Whiteboxes of multiple chip vendors such as Broadcom, Mellanox, Barefoot and so on.
Microsoft released SoNIC as open source software in March 2016. Recently, companies such as Alibaba and Linkedin have begun to adopt SoNIC.
So, in this session, we would like to share the contents of the survey below, and discuss what SONIC can be used commercially and what issues it will have to use.

  • Overseas application cases
  • Configuration example of IP CLOS fabric using SONiC (due to demo)
  • SONiC Architecture (Why SONiC Works on Whitebox)

I will speak in a neutral position as a third-party engineer, not be a SONiC promoter.
