Information Management ~what and how alleviate cost burden for IT infrastructure operation~
Abstract
When you operate some IT resources, especially for on-premises ones, you have to manage their "information".
That is about physical information where it is located in the datacenter, floor and rack and which appliance
it is connected with. In addition, you might have to handle information about what purpose they are used for,
or who uses them. Besides, logical information (e.g. IP address / VLAN ID) and management information (end of support or lease team) could be necessary for daily operation.
It might need great effort to keep managing of these information correctly and consistently. For example, when information about usage status is managed by multiple spread-sheets and both have different values for a particular appliance, you have to solve these inconsistencies. And that can take great effort to keep doing it.
We have tackled to solve this problem in the infrastructure operational department. I want to show our efforts how to try to address it, and how to reduce operational cost by making the most of these information in this session.
