Sereform SF: An security platform for freely remote-operating SoC FPGA as an IoT device.

Abstract

I will present “Sereform SF: An security infrastructure for freely remote-operating SoC FPGA as a IoT device” that I am working on in “SecHack365”, a security innovator training program hosted by NICT.

As it is said that "The most secure way is not to connect the device to the Internet", remote operation of IoT devices will often be limited due to security risks.

However, the safety gained in this way is a trade-off between system convenience and flexibility.

In particular, when SoC FPGA(An device that FPGA and ARM processors are connected with a high-speed bus) are used as IoT devices, If Remote Reconfiguration to FPGA is prohibited from security risks, the value of SoC FPGA greatly impaired.

Because reconfigurable is a major feature of FPGA.If IoT devices including SoC FPGAs can be safely executed as freely as the machine at hand, new solutions that are not bound by the existing IoT framework can be expected.

Sereform SF(A Secure Remote Reconfiguration Platform for SoC FPGA) is a platform to realize “security without tightening”.
