Regional Network like Regional IX, etc. having small operation team and tend to be depending too much on the specific person's own engineering skills and experiences. However I think if we can integrate these experiences and skills into the operation systems and make all the work simple, we can avoid such situation for the network operations.
It seems like challenging and too little information, but this will be the greatest force for the operations with a small team, if it can be achieved. To see the SDN as a concept of protocols and devices that can be abstracted, there is already a production examples of management, and data transfer capability of software switch is getting close to the wire rate.
Therefore, I would like to introduce SDN possibilities for regional IX and its future prospects.
