Abstract

Two commercial IX services (JPNAP Fukuoka and BBIX Fukuoka) will be launched in Fukuoka/Kyushu.
Although Japan’s Internet hubs have been mainly based in Tokyo and Osaka, the new interconnection points in the Kyushu area are expected to bring a new perspective on traffic dispersion and redundancy.
Especially this year, due to the impact of COVID-19, there has been a significant increase in the number of people working from home using web conferencing, teaching, and watching online content and playing games due to self-restraint.
These Internet uses are not only important for bandwidth, but also for how close traffic can be exchanged in terms of low latency.
We would like to share our expectations and challenges as a third location after Tokyo and Osaka from the perspective of regional ISPs, content providers, and service providers, and discuss our future efforts with you.
