Abstract

Is the certificate perhaps a Snake Oil scam?

In recent years, you have heard buzzwords such as HTTPS Everywhere or Encryption by default in the context of privacy protection or Pervasive Encryption. However, it's troublesome and costly to acquire a certificate so I guess that there people who use unsafe configurations or Snake Oil certificates which are not trusted.

Let's Encrypt is a project to solve such problems, by proposing a certificate authority and certificate issuance process which is automated, highly transparent and available to anyone, for free.

In this LT, I will simply talk about Let's Encrypt, protocols supporting it, and how to use it.
