Abstract

Recently Japan is accelerating digitalization and digital transformation, therefore the Internet in Japan has to be more resilient.
In case of big disaster in Tokyo area, however, networks in east Japan may lose their connectivity to the whole Internet because most of them have their interconnecting points only in Tokyo, from historical and economical reasons; we should change it in order not to stop the Internet in east Japan, especially Tohoku and Hokkaido area.

In this panel discussion, network operators in Tohoku and Hokkaido will present
(1) whether such issues are critical or not,
(2) any impacts if they lose the connectivity due to big disaster in Tokyo,
(3) any plans of countermeasures or solutions to the issues, and
(4) any requests to big carriers and government.
And then the panelists and audience will discuss resilient network architecture in east Japan as well as entire Japan, and try to find what we should change to achieve it.
