Abstract
LINE operates 10,000+ network devices, 68,000+ servers, and 94,000+ VM instances daily to provide various family services, including the communication application.
Due to “equipment will break down at some point in the future.” and “everyone makes mistakes.”, failures occur during daily operations and configuration changes, and major failures have resulted in the temporary unavailability of major LINE functions.
We are working on improving the quality of our operations, but even so, it is impossible to achieve 100% availability of our infrastructure, so we had decided to take measures to improve the availability from LINE’s application perspective.
Specifically, we have built three or more Availability Zones, which are infrastructures that are not affected by each other’s failures, and by distributing applications across multiple AZs, we aim to ensure that LINE’s applications keep working even in the equipment failure event.
In this presentation, we will share how LINE has defined the AZs, built the network infrastructure, and developed the various services and platform functions of the private cloud in order to realize this multi-AZ environment.
Since the development of private cloud environments for node virtualization has been progressing even among telecommunications carriers, which require extremely high infrastructure utilization rates, we will discuss the “redundant configuration required for private cloud environment infrastructure” from the perspective of both content providers and telecommunications carriers, and find good points that can be incorporated into each other’s private cloud environment.
