Abstract

At the JANOG50 Meeting “Technical Factors and Countermeasures against Pirated Manga Sites”, we explained of manga culture in Japan, the negative impact of pirated manga sites, the front end of pirated manga sites, and presumed infrastructure. And we discussed how we can contribute because we are engineers.
And now, one year later, although no super-giant pirated manga site has been created, a large number of pirated sites have emerged, and the current situation has not been overcome. In order to find a clue to the solution, we are still investigating and countermeasures against pirated sites from a technical point of view.

As we continue to investigate countermeasures, we have observed that a large number of pirate sites frequently switch sites through a technique called domain hopping, that some operators are not proactive in combating piracy, and that frameworks have been developed and marketed to facilitate the construction of pirate sites.
On the other hand, by focusing on the identity of URLs and images, there was also progress in research on whether it is possible to group multiple pirated sites and estimate the operator.

Manga pirated sites skillfully use various Internet resources and services such as domain names, CDNs, and IaaS to develop sites. JANOG is a place where various people related to the Internet can gather. In addition, the Internet Governance Forum will be held in Kyoto in October this year.
In this program, we would like to “eXchange” the latest information and issues regarding countermeasures against manga piracy sites, as well as liven up discussions on this issue related to Internet governance.
