Abstract

The new KEIRIN Tournament “PIST6” will be held at “TIPSTAR DOME CHIBA” from October 2021, using an international standard bicycle racing track and a 250m indoor wooden bank in accordance with international rules.

Our team worked on the implementation of an in-vehicle camera with wireless IP transmission in order to realize an in-vehicle live camera for cycling competitions. There are many wireless video technologies such as broadcasting, drone wireless video transmission, etc., but we chose IP wireless video transmission to realize video transmission from multiple cameras.

At the time of initial construction, we built a wireless video transmission network using “Wi-Fi” and “sXGP (private LTE),” which can be used to build a wireless network without the need for a license. However, due to issues with bandwidth and wireless stability, we have been working since the summer of 2021 on the transition to local 5G, which claims “ultra-high speed/ultra-low latency,” “high-capacity communication,” and “many simultaneous connections.

We have been challenging new technological areas such as the construction of a local 5G wireless environment and associated hardware and software development (using Raspberry Pi Zero to the limit). I would like to introduce the flow of construction, actual measurements of local 5G, key points in dealing with it, and what I felt were the key points and what I learned in advancing hardware and software development.

We would also like to discuss what points and considerations were necessary to make local 5G more useful, and what other approaches we can take as users (network operators), while introducing our experiences.
