Abstract

Various tools and platforms have been developed for network operation automation, and their use in production networks is expanding. However, human operators are still responsible for deciding how the network should be controlled to maintain network quality using those tools and platforms. Recently, standardization and R&D on autonomous networks have been actively conducted to automate such decision-making, and “autonomy” is one of the keywords in Beyond 5G/6G.

This presentation will review the trend of such autonomous networks and share the technical details of network operations based on AI techniques such as machine learning and deep learning, which will be essential for autonomous networks. This presentation will also provide an overview of the commonly used algorithms (e.g., LSTM, AutoEncoder). Finally, in this presentation, I would like to discuss the technical and cultural barriers to introducing such technologies into network operations.
