Abstract
IIJ has occasionally been receiving requests for outsourcing full-service resolver from ISP customers. We have conducted a customer survey and found out that the outsourcing actually are in demand. Also, there seem to be some ISPs that already have distributed public DNS to their users.
Full-service resolver is a service that is directly connected to the availability of the line service. Complete outage of a full-service resolver practically means the outage of the entire line. However, there is not much discussion about outsourcing the service.
In this session, I would like to discuss what needs to be considered when outsourcing full-service resolver from the viewpoint of availability and traffic management. Expected major stakeholders are; DNS operators, network operators, CDN, etc.
