Abstract
In accordance with Vision for a Digital Garden City Nation, data centers are being distributed to rural areas. In addition, regional IX/CDN demonstration experiments are being conducted in several regions to distribute traffic and efficiently deliver content.
In order to ensure that no one is left behind, the goal of 100% access by FTTH/5G has been set and various measures are being implemented to achieve this goal, but to increase the effectiveness of this goal, it is necessary to further decentralize the content accessed from the polarization of Tokyo and Osaka. Furthermore, one of the objectives of regional diversification appears to be the intention to use regional IX as a trump card for regional revitalization, to create local employment, and to attract major operators.
On the other hand, as discussed in previous sessions on regional IXs at JANOG, simply building a regional IX as a box does not always work, and it is also understood that various resources are needed for its continued development. In addition, there has not been sufficient discussion on the granularity of the distribution of IXs in Japan. In addition, there does not seem to be any coordination with content activities such as eSports, which are becoming popular in some regions.
This presentation will outline the regional decentralization of the Digital Rural City concept, introduce the demonstration experiments that have been conducted to date, and discuss what is needed to achieve regional decentralization and whether it can really be a trump card. Furthermore, from the standpoints of engineers and operators, the presentation will include an exchange of opinions with the audience on what kind of environment would make them consider working in the region.
