Day1 17:00~18:00にJPRSホール (コンベンションホールA)で開催されるプログラム、
「メールアドレスの日本語対応を始めよう！〜ユニバーサル・アクセプタンス〜」について、
発表者のAthena Fooさん（Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers/ICANN）にお話を伺いました。
応募したきっかけ
ユニバーサル・アクセプタンス（UA）は、多言語に対応したインクルーシブなインターネットの基本的要件です。長いトップレベルドメイン（TLD）やメールアドレスを含む全ての有効なドメイン名が、スクリプト、言語、文字列の長さ（字数）に関係なく、全てのインターネット対応アプリケーション、デバイス、システムで使用できる状態がUAです。
ICANNでは、UAの実現を戦略目標のひとつに掲げています。メールサービス、ドメイン名の登録、ホスティングサービス、ブラウザサービスといったサービスを提供しているISPは、ICANNを構成するコミュニティとして、UA実現という戦略目標の達成に大きな役割を担う存在です。
そのため、JANOG54では、UAの重要性、そしてUA対応におけるISPの役割について多くの皆様に知っていただきたいと考えています。また、各ISPでのUA対応をICANNがどのようにサポートできるかについて、参加者の皆様と議論したいと思います。これは、「話しあいで繋ぐインターネット」というJANOG54のテーマに合致するものです。このセッションでの話しあいを通して、インターネットをより良くしていくJANOGの活動に貢献できれば幸いです。インターネットをより良いものにしていくことは、ICANNが掲げている長期的目標でもあります。

Universal Acceptance (UA) is a fundamental requirement for a truly multilingual and digitally inclusive Internet. It ensures all valid domain names, including long new top level domains (TLDs) and email addresses, can be used by all Internet-enabled applications, devices, and systems regardless of script, language, or character length.
The ISP community plays an important role in helping ICANN achieve our strategic goal of UA, as they provide services such as email services, domain registration, web hosting and browser services.
Through JANOG54, I hope to be able to raise awareness of the importance of UA, how ISPs can contribute to it, and discuss with other participants how ICANN can work with them to help them become UA-ready. I believe this aligns with JANOG54’s theme – ‘Connecting through discussion on the Internet’, and look forward to contributing to JANOG’s goal of making the Internet better. This is also a mutual and long standing goal of ICANN.

まず、UAのコンセプトと重要性を紹介し、各ISPにおいてUAに対応する方法を説明します。また、すでにUAに対応しているISPの方が参加者の中にいらっしゃれば、対応にあたって直面した課題を共有していただきたいと思います。そして、ISPにおけるUA実現に向けてICANNがどのように協力できるかを皆様と議論したいと考えています。

I will be introducing the concept and importance of UA, and sharing ways in which ISPs can become UA-ready. I also plan to find out from the participants the challenges they may have faced in adopting UA, and explore how ICANN can work with them in their UA journey.
JANOG54の参加者への期待
UAに馴染みのない参加者の方々には、UAとは何か、UAがなぜインターネット体験を向上させる上で重要なのかについて、理解を深めていただきたいと考えています。UA対応に前向きな参加者の方々には、私のプレゼンテーションがUAの導入方法を知るきっかけになれば幸いです。また、すでにUA対応の過程にあり、課題に直面している参加者の方々とは、ICANNがどのように支援できるかをご一緒に検討できればと思います。

For attendees who are not familiar with UA, I hope my presentation will provide them with a better understanding of what UA is and why it is important in improving the Internet experience. For attendees who are keen to embark on their UA journey, I hope my presentation will allow them to find out how they can do so. For attendees who are already in the process of adopting UA and face challenges, I hope to be able to explore with them how ICANN can assist them.
