Abstract
As we reported(*1) at JANOG48, last summer 2021, DNS Operators Group in Japan aka DNSOPS.JP has been surveying major managed DNS services around the world as an “ordinal user” (and is still ongoing work!).
Through these two years preparation and survey, briefings, and feedback from operators (of JANOG, DNSOPS.JP and so on), we have been learning how we survey the services.
Especially, we noticed that we have to have view points of managed DNS service providers in addition to those of users.
That is, we explicitly re-recognized that most of managed DNS service providers are providing it as an option of other managed services. Also, it is difficult to know such background and whole service sets from its promotion Web sites and its control panel operation, so we started interview to the providers.
At the JANOG50, we would like to report summary of survey since JANOG48, and explain new survey items with its objectives. Further, we would like to expose participants’ implicit expectations of the set of managed services including authoritative DNS passionately, as we did last summer.
We promise that we will “Change” our points of view, quality, and team structure swiftly as required, to make our survey useful to the community!
